Appearance[]

In the days before her remodeling, Renata was an ordinary woman scientist who had half-lidded eyes and an aquiline nose, along with considerably pale skin and short blonde hair. After her remodeling as Hera, she appeared much the same as she had in the original 009 manga.

These days, Hera's dessicated remains and her consciousness show her to be a ghoulish figure inhabiting Atlas, necessitating her to possess any worthwhile human women to continue using her abilities and communicating with her fellow cyborgs.

Personality[]

As before, Hera is quite ruthless and cunning, down to the fact she specifically possesses Riko Brown so the cyborgs would feel less willing to attack her. She still claims to believe in a fair fight though, and that she would release anyone she would possess once the battle's outcome would be clear.

She was driven to become Hera by the promises of her superior, that she would be a queen and ruler of the Mythos Cyborgs, and she does what she can to act as such. However, as much as she is at odds with Zeus over him using them as pawns and judges him in such a way, she still can't quite go against him and knows he has more power than she does.

Relationships[]

Dr. Gaia/Zeus[]

"Renata! You are the one person I trust in public and private, the woman I have as an assistant! That's why it's necessary for my plan of world domination, I want you to become a central figure...the Mythos project is a plan to bring the Gods based from Greek mythology to the modern era. Someday, when I rule over them all, in other words, when I become the almighty great god Zeus...! You will be his wife, you will become Hera, the Queen of the Gods!"

In her human life, Renata was Gaia's assistant, one who he manipulated into being his Queen of the team with the promise she would become his wife. It had seemed like a great idea to her at the time, although she had never did get the chance to become the very wife as Gaia had promised; she died in the process of saving the rest of the team from the collapse of Magma, while Gaia remained in hiding for over 50 years, having eventually put himself into a cryosleep as he sought out a new body to possess.

As the new battles went on, Hera argued more and more with Zeus over the ethics of what he did to create his cyborgs. Eventually, with his defeat by 009, Hera used the last of her abilities to return him to his weak, dying human body as Gaia, making sure the two of them could end their existence together as the couple he'd promised they'd be.

Abilities[]

Hera is a powerful esper, with abilities to rival that of 001 and many similar ones in her arsenal. She retains power even after her seeming death in the wake of Magma's sinking, with her telepathically communicating from her resting place inside of Atlas. However, she requires a body to be able to operate as she had before, and relies upon both Gaia's "Zeus System" technology combined with the abilities of Dr. Uranus' amulet "Baskania" to find a suitable host. It is in fact those descendants of Uranus who wear the Baskania that are most valuable to Hera.

History[]

Back in the 1960s, a young scientist named Renata Novak was convinced to become part of the Mythos Cyborg project by her superior, Dr. Gaia, who played upon her feelings for him. As Hera, she served as the team's resident esper, and eventually engaged in a battle with 001 that resulted in Magma Island being torn apart by all sorts of disasters. The 00 Cyborg team never learned her name during this original encounter, only thinking of her as "that woman esper".

As Magma became ravaged, Dr. Gaia ordered Hera to teleport the rest of his cyborgs to safety. As she used her powers to do so, transporting them to an underground safety chamber, she wound up mortally wounded in the destruction. The discarded head of Atlas came to her rescue, stating that she could preserve her mind within him, as his gratitude for her helping preserve the "souls of Mythos".

The dying Hera accepted, and would remain dormant within Atlas all those years, seeking out a new body since she could not be revived as easily as the rest of the team had. Around 50 years later, Hera would finally find a suitable new host; first in that of Uranus' granddaughter Riko Brown and then later possessing her mother Hitomi. It was in these bodies that Hera had resurfaced to challenge the 00 Cyborgs, informing them that her name was indeed Hera and that she was the queen of Mythos.

Hera would oversee the battles between the two teams, but would constantly debate with Zeus about what he had done to create such cyborgs and this situation. Once he was defeated, with the victory being secured for the 00 side, Hera released her hold on Hitomi and took away Zeus' hold on Ricardo. She convinced Gaia to return to his original, decrepit body, and to pass away naturally, with her disappearing as well in their final embrace.

Trivia[]

  • After the 2001 series, this would become another piece of media to give the "Woman Esper" an identity, consistently keeping her as Hera due to such a powerful status. It would also be the first time any writer would explore in depth as to who Hera was before her remodeling. With her powers utilized, along with the more sci-fi nature of the story to begin with, a supernatural angle is also employed as to how Hera has been lying in wait al these years (and a similar one utilized for Gaia/Zeus).
